Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its continued support of peace efforts in Ukraine on Thursday, after Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz stated that Türkiye would keep contributing to the diplomatic process with all available means until a fair and lasting peace is achieved.

Virtually attending the fifth "Coalition of the Willing" summit in Paris on behalf of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz emphasized in a post on X after the meeting that diplomacy and dialogue must be prioritized over confrontation to end the war in Ukraine.

VP reaffirms Türkiye’s readiness to lead peace efforts

"We once again underline that diplomacy and dialogue between the parties should be prioritized," Yilmaz said in his statement. "Until a fair and lasting peace is established, we will continue to contribute to the diplomatic process with all our means."

Yilmaz also stressed Türkiye’s willingness to play an active part in international efforts.

"We are ready to take a leading role in all areas necessary for the establishment of permanent peace," he added..

Discussions center on global responses to Russia

The summit, hosted in hybrid format by French President Emmanuel Macron, was convened following an initiative launched by U.S. President Donald Trump. Leaders discussed ways to coordinate international action to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, with emphasis on strengthening diplomatic channels.

During the meeting, Trump urged European leaders to stop purchasing Russian oil and to intensify economic pressure on China, which he accused of helping finance Moscow’s war. He noted that Russia had earned about $1.2 billion from European oil sales, pressing for a united response.

After the meeting, Zelenskyy rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invitation to meet in Moscow, saying the proposal appeared aimed at obstructing rather than enabling genuine peace talks.
