President Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly condemned Israel's attack on a Hamas negotiating delegation in Qatar, calling it a violation of international law and Qatari sovereignty.

In a social media statement Tuesday, Erdogan accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government of seeking to deepen conflict and instability in the region through the strike against Hamas representatives engaged in diplomatic talks.

"Israel's attack today on the Hamas negotiating team in Qatar has once again clearly revealed that Netanyahu's blinded government aims to deepen conflict and instability," Erdogan wrote. "This attack, which is a clear violation of international law and Qatar's sovereignty, has also targeted the security and peace of our brother country Qatar."

Türkiye pledges support for Qatar and Palestinian cause

The President characterized the strike as state-sponsored terrorism and vowed that Türkiye would stand by both Palestinian and Qatari interests. "Those who make terrorism a state policy will never achieve their goals," he said.

Erdogan declared that Türkiye would maintain its "resolute and determined stance" against what he called Israel's "banditry" that aims to drag the entire region into disaster, pledging to continue defending peace, international law and Palestinian freedom "at any cost."

Leaders coordinate response in diplomatic call

Erdogan also held a telephone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss the attack and coordinate a joint response, according to Türkiye's Presidential Communications Directorate.

During the call, Erdogan expressed condolences for those killed in what he termed a "heinous attack" and reaffirmed Türkiye's full support for Qatar and its people. Both leaders agreed to continue working together to halt what Erdogan has previously called a "massacre" in Gaza.
