A Palestinian mother from Gaza who lost one of her children due to medicine shortages has been transferred to Türkiye with her two surviving children for medical treatment, following their passage through Jordan.
The family traveled without the father, who was detained by Israeli forces during the border crossing.
The mother, Iman Said Muammer, 28, was accompanied by her 13-year-old daughter, Aye, and her 3-year-old son, Kerim, who suffers from a medical syndrome requiring urgent treatment.
The family had received prior authorization to leave Gaza; however, Israeli authorities detained the children’s father, Ali Fuad Abu Muammer, at the Kerem Abu Salim crossing.
After crossing into Jordan via the King Hussein Bridge, the mother and children were transported by an ambulance arranged by the Turkish Embassy in Amman to the capital’s airport.
They subsequently boarded an air ambulance to Adana, Türkiye, where the child will undergo medical treatment.
Speaking to reporters while en route to the airport, Muammer said one of her sons, four-year-old Muhammad, died at Nasser Hospital due to the lack of medicine and adequate treatment.
She expressed concern over her husband’s detention, noting that he had been employed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and calling for his release.
Muammer added that the family had initially attempted to exit Gaza through the Rafah crossing with Egypt, which she said was closed at the time. She stated that despite the cease-fire announced in October, shortages of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid continued to affect daily life in Gaza.
