The meeting between Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump has drawn significant attention in Greek media, with coverage framing it as a diplomatic success for Türkiye.

Ta Nea ran the headline “Took Everything,” reporting that Erdogan secured a $70 billion purchase package from the U.S., including planes and natural gas. The article added, “While Trump lavishes praise on his friend Erdogan, Greece can only watch as major regional decisions unfold without influence.”

Kathimerini highlighted efforts by Trump to explore ways to provide Türkiye with F-35 jets. The report emphasized the new dynamic in Washington-Ankara relations, noting Trump’s praise for Erdogan and his recognition of Türkiye as a regional power.

Greek government criticized

Greek news site in.gr criticized Greece’s handling of diplomacy, running the headline: “Mitsotakis’ New York Fiasco, Sign of Crisis in Leadership.” The report noted that Erdogan successfully met with Trump while Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ planned talks in New York were postponed.

The article stressed, “While the Turkish president secured improvements in Turkish-American relations, including defense procurement, the prime minister’s New York meetings had little impact. Greece now faces serious difficulties in establishing a communication and consensus channel with the US government and President Trump.”
