Iran said it prioritizes diplomacy and regional stability but remains fully prepared for war if necessary, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said, according to Iranian media.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran, Mohajerani said foreign media are creating a perception of an imminent war against Iran, causing concern among the public.

“We hear the drums of war in foreign media under conditions of war threats,” Mohajerani said, adding that Iran has previously faced similar situations. She said Iran was already aware it was engaged in a multi-layered conflict.

“Our priority is to resolve issues through diplomacy. However, other options are also on the table. We are fully prepared for war,” she said.

Protests, casualties and government response

Addressing deaths during protests in Iran, Mohajerani said the government mourns all those who lost their lives, noting that more than 3,000 deaths is not a small number.

“As the president has said, we mourn everyone who has lost their life. What is at stake is a human life,” she said, adding that security forces had also been killed.

Mohajerani said the government believes it can overcome the current challenges through dialogue with the public and by recognizing legitimate demands.

She said authorities have met with leaders of peaceful protests and dismissed some university administrators accused of taking harsh measures against students.

She added that investigations into protests and violent incidents are ongoing and that reports will be published in the coming days.

Internet restrictions remain in place

Mohajerani also commented on internet disruptions in Iran, saying that decisions during times of security threats are made by the Supreme National Security Council.

“When our security is at risk, various measures are taken based on institutional assessments, and potential damages are also calculated,” she said.

She said President Masoud Pezeshkian favors lifting internet restrictions, but current conditions require security bodies to manage such decisions.

Mohajerani said businesspeople and traders currently have limited internet access, while the general public does not yet have the same access.
