Iranian media released unverified images Saturday of a U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook helicopter, claiming an Iranian drone struck the heavy-lift aircraft at a Kuwait air base. This would mark the latest in a series of attacks on U.S. military assets stationed in the Gulf.
The U.S. administration has not confirmed the claim.
Iran's Press TV published the images but provided no additional details on the timing or circumstances of the alleged strike.
There was no immediate statement from the Pentagon, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) or the White House.
The CH-47F Chinook is the U.S. Army's only heavy-lift cargo helicopter, capable of carrying up to 36 personnel or intra-theater payloads of up to 16,000 pounds in high-temperature environments.
With a maximum gross weight of 50,000 pounds and a sling-load capacity of up to 26,000 pounds, the aircraft is essential to combat logistics, troop transport, medical evacuation and disaster relief operations.
The helicopter features an upgraded digital cockpit, the Common Avionics Architecture System and a Digital Automatic Flight Control System for operations in reduced visibility and adverse conditions.
A minimum crew of three, pilot, copilot and flight engineer, operates each aircraft.
The alleged strike fits a pattern of Iranian attacks targeting U.S. military infrastructure across the Gulf since the war began Feb. 28, 2026. Kuwait has intercepted 312 ballistic missiles, five cruise missiles and 651 drones since the conflict started, according to data compiled from Kuwaiti authorities.
Earlier this week, drone attacks struck fuel tanks at Kuwait International Airport and the Mina Al-Ahmadi oil refinery, sparking fires at both facilities. An Iranian drone attack also destroyed a U.S. Air Force E-3 Sentry surveillance aircraft on the tarmac at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on March 26.
Iran has launched at least 5,735 missile and drone strikes across seven Arab countries hosting U.S. military assets since Feb. 28. This data comes from an Anadolu Agency (AA) tally of reports from the affected nations' defense ministries.
The UAE has been the hardest hit, with nearly 2,500 strikes recorded.
The U.S. has acknowledged seven manned aircraft losses during the war, along with 13 service members killed and 365 wounded in action.
Iran's claim could not be independently verified at the time of reporting.
