Israel has killed 16,802 Palestinian students and wounded more than 26,000 others in Gaza Strip and West Bank attacks since launching its military campaign on Oct. 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Education.

The ministry announced that Israeli attacks have systematically targeted Palestinian educational institutions, with 15,553 pre-university students killed and 23,411 wounded in the Gaza Strip alone.

In the West Bank, 103 students have been killed, 691 wounded, and 361 detained.

University students have faced similarly devastating losses, with 1,111 killed and 2,317 wounded in Gaza, while 35 university students have been killed in the West Bank, with more than 219 wounded and 399 detained.

The total number of wounded students across both territories reached 25,728 in Gaza and at least 910 in the West Bank, according to ministry figures.

Educational staff casualties mount

Israeli attacks have killed 926 educational personnel across Gaza and the West Bank, with 705 deaths in pre-university schools and 221 in universities.

A total of 4,452 educational staff members have been wounded.

In Gaza's pre-university schools, 701 educational personnel have been killed and 3,015 wounded, while four educational staff died in West Bank schools with 21 wounded and 182 detained.

Gaza's universities lost 221 personnel, with 1,416 wounded, while 17 university staff were detained in the West Bank.

Systematic destruction of educational infrastructure

The ministry reported extensive destruction of educational facilities throughout Gaza. More than 118 government schools have been completely destroyed, 252 schools severely damaged, and 91 schools bombed and demolished.

Over 60 university buildings have been completely destroyed.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has seen 93 of its schools bombed in Gaza.

In the West Bank, 152 schools have been destroyed by Israeli forces, with eight universities raided.

For the second consecutive year, Gaza Strip students have been unable to take high school examinations that began June 21, for Palestinian students in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and 37 countries worldwide.

The ongoing conflict has completely disrupted the academic calendar for Gaza's student population.

Trump claims Gaza cease-fire progress despite Israeli source denial

Speaking at the NATO summit in The Hague, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed "great progress" toward a Gaza cease-fire, stating his Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff told him a cease-fire was "very close."

However, an unnamed Israeli source told Haaretz newspaper that contrary to Trump's statements, no progress has been made in indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas regarding prisoner exchange and Gaza ceasefire.

The source indicated that disagreements between parties regarding potential agreement terms continue.

Ongoing violence claims 37 lives in latest attacks

Israeli forces killed at least 37 Palestinians in Wednesday's attacks across the Gaza Strip, including those waiting for humanitarian aid.

The attacks targeted multiple locations, including Jabaliya in northern Gaza, Shujaiya neighborhood in Gaza City, Nuseirat refugee camp, and Deir al-Balah.

Seven Palestinians were killed when Israeli forces targeted aid-seekers on Salahuddin Street in southern Gaza Valley, with 18 people wounded, including two in serious condition.

Since May 27, Israel has implemented what it calls the "Gaza Humanitarian Aid Foundation," operating outside U.N. and international aid organization oversight. Hamas describes this U.S.-Israeli guided system as "death traps."

According to Gaza's Government Media Office, at least 516 people have been killed and 3,799 wounded in systematic attacks on distribution areas established under this aid mechanism. Israel has kept all land border crossings to Gaza closed since March 2, allowing only limited vehicles through the Kerem Abu Salem crossing.

UN warns of worsening humanitarian crisis

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini warned that Gaza faces a "horrific situation," with daily military attacks and forced displacement continuing. He emphasized that Gaza's population feels "completely trapped" due to Israel's controversial aid system.

"People are asking themselves: 'Should I let my family die of starvation, or risk being killed while trying to access humanitarian aid?'" Lazzarini said, describing Gaza as a "post-apocalyptic" environment.

The U.N. warned that Israel's fuel blockade, lasting over 100 days, could lead to children dying of thirst if critical services like water distribution cannot continue operating.

Casualty toll continues rising

Israeli attacks on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, have killed 56,077 Palestinians and wounded 131,848 others, according to Palestinian health authorities.

The conflict resumed with intense Israeli attacks on March 18 following a temporary ceasefire that ended January 19.

Israel has continued expanding its occupation plans for the Gaza Strip, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announcing intentions to occupy the entire territory. The attacks persist despite international calls for a cease-fire and International Court of Justice orders to prevent genocide.
