Israeli officials claim Hezbollah preparing for assault amid Golan heights escalations
After the escalating tensions following an attack in the Golan Heights, Israeli officials have claimed that Hezbollah is preparing for an assault.
The officials emphasized that the Israeli army does not seek a war with Hezbollah, but mentioned that Israel is preparing for a confrontation that could last several days.
Recently, Israel held Hezbollah responsible for the bombing of a football field in the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights.
Hezbollah denied these allegations, suggesting the missile was fired from the Iron Dome.
As the tension at the Israel-Lebanon border raises concerns about a potential new war, unnamed Israeli officials made a striking statement.
They stated that while their country is preparing for an attack on Hezbollah, the army does not wish to enter into a full-scale war against them. Senior defense officials, among others, mentioned that Israel is preparing for a confrontation that could last a few days.
In a report by Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, citing unnamed officials, it was suggested that the response to Hezbollah would be “limited but significant.”
The report indicated that the retaliatory strike might target infrastructure, including bridges, power plants and ports or Hezbollah’s weapon depots.
In response to Israel’s claims about targeting Lebanese territories because of the attack, Lebanese Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab stated Hezbollah had no intention of bombing Majdal Shams.
“Mediators are in constant contact with us, trying to avoid significant tension. We do not want war, but the Israelis want to escalate tensions to cover up what is happening in Gaza,” Saab noted.
