Russia’s Foreign Ministry has issued a warning to Russian nationals currently in Azerbaijan or planning to travel there, urging increased caution in light of recent developments.
In a written statement released on Wednesday, the ministry advised its citizens to "take into account the situation in the country" and called on Russians in Azerbaijan to act with "greater attentiveness and caution."
The advisory comes amid growing diplomatic strain between Moscow and Baku following a deadly police raid in Russia.
The warning follows incidents on June 27 in Yekaterinburg, where Russian security forces reportedly carried out raids on homes occupied by Azerbaijani nationals. Two Azerbaijanis were killed, several others were seriously injured, and at least nine individuals were detained, according to reports.
In response, Azerbaijan summoned the Russian Embassy’s charge d'affaires, Pyotr Volokovykh, to its Foreign Ministry to express formal protest. Baku demanded a swift investigation and the prosecution of those responsible for the violence.
The diplomatic fallout continued with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture announcing the suspension of all Russian cultural events in the country.
