Syria's Interior Ministry has announced the opening of a registration center in Deir ez-Zor province for individuals seeking to disarm and defect from the YPG terror organization, which operates under the name "SDF" in areas east of the Euphrates River.
The ministry stated on X that the center, established under the Internal Security Command in Deir ez-Zor, has begun accepting former SDF-affiliated elements who wish to surrender their weapons to security authorities and clarify their legal status.
"The Internal Security Command in Deir ez-Zor province has begun receiving SDF-affiliated elements who wish to clarify their status at the designated center in Deir ez-Zor province after surrendering their weapons to security authorities," the ministry said in its statement.
According to the ministry, the move represents part of broader efforts to consolidate stability in the region and provide new opportunities for those seeking to leave the YPG and return to civilian life. The registration process also provides documentation for former militants who disarm and defect from the SDF, enabling them to reintegrate into normal society.
The Interior Ministry had announced a day earlier that it opened registration centers in both Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor for individuals leaving the YPG terror organization.
The registration initiative comes as the YPG terror organization continues its attacks in Syria despite a ceasefire agreement signed with Damascus. The Syrian news agency SANA reported that one person was killed and several others were wounded in a bombardment by the YPG targeting the village of Al-Safa in rural Hasaka.
