United States President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the "necessary conditions" to finalize a 60-day cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said his representatives held a “long and productive meeting” with Israeli officials earlier in the day.
“Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,” he wrote.
Trump added that mediators Qatar and Egypt would deliver the "final proposal" to the Palestinian group Hamas.
“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” he said.
Earlier Tuesday, Trump told reporters he hopes a cease-fire agreement in Gaza will be reached “sometime next week.”
He also said he would meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week in Washington to discuss Gaza and Iran.
"He's coming here. We're going to talk about a lot of things. We're going to talk about the great success we had in Iran... We're also going to talk about Gaza," Trump said.
Despite international calls for a cease-fire, the Israeli forces has pursued a deadly onslaught on Gaza, killing more than 56,600 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since October 2023.
Meanwhile last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
