Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned a terror attack carried out by a Daesh militant in Syria that targeted Syrian and U.S. forces, according to a written statement.
The ministry said the attack occurred on Dec. 13 and targeted Syrian and U.S. forces who were performing patrol duties near the ancient city of Palmyra.
“We condemn the terrorist attack carried out on Dec. 13 against Syrian and U.S. forces performing patrol duties near Palmyra,” the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry extended condolences to the families of those killed in the attack and to the governments of Syria and the United States.
The statement described Syria and the U.S. as partners in the international coalition fighting Daesh.
The ministry said Türkiye would continue to support the Syrian government’s efforts to strengthen stability and security in the country and to combat terrorism.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said two U.S. troops and one civilian were killed in the ambush carried out by the Daesh gunman.
CENTCOM added that three other U.S. service members were injured in the attack.
