The United Arab Emirates condemned “in the strongest terms” what it described as an Iranian attack targeting a national tanker affiliated with ADNOC while it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

In a statement, the ministry said the tanker was attacked using two drones during its passage through the strait. It said no injuries were recorded.

UAE says attack targeted commercial navigation

The Foreign Ministry said the attack was a clear violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 2817, which stresses freedom of navigation and rejects the targeting of commercial ships or the disruption of international maritime routes.

The ministry said the targeting of commercial navigation, the disruption of maritime trade routes, and the use of the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of pressure or economic blackmail amount to acts of piracy by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

It said such actions pose a direct threat to the stability of the region, its people and global energy security.

Gargash says Iranian threat cannot be ignored

Anwar Mohammed Gargash, the UAE’s former minister of state for Federal National Council affairs, said the Iranian aggression was continuing through maritime attacks.

“The Iranian aggression continues unabated, with acts of maritime piracy targeting a national tanker affiliated with ADNOC as it transited the Strait of Hormuz,” Gargash said in a post on X.

“The UAE's stance remains steadfast in rejecting aggression and upholding freedom of navigation in this vital international passage,” he added.

Gargash said the attacks showed that the Iranian threat to the security and stability of the region persists and “cannot be ignored.”

UAE urges Iran to stop attacks

The UAE stressed the need for Iran to stop what it called “treacherous attacks.”

The ministry said this includes Iran’s full commitment to halting all hostile acts and reopening the Strait of Hormuz fully and unconditionally.

It said the move was necessary to support the security and stability of the region, as well as the stability of the global economy and international trade.

Ministry says no injuries recorded

The ministry said the attack on the ADNOC-affiliated national tanker took place while the vessel was passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

It said the attack was carried out with two drones and did not result in any injuries.
