The United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued an emergency public alert warning residents of potential missile threats, authorities announced, as tensions in the Strait of Hormuz reached a critical flashpoint following the launch of the U.S. Project Freedom operation and Iranian military warnings of retaliation against vessels transiting the waterway.
The UAE Ministry of Interior sent an emergency alert to all residents' mobile phones, warning of potential missile threats and instructing the public to immediately seek shelter, the first such alert since the U.S.-Iran ceasefire was announced on April 7.
The alert read: "Due to the current situation, potential missile threats, immediately seek a safe place in the closest secure building, steer away from windows, doors, and open areas. Await further instructions. (MOI)"
"Thank you for your cooperation." The message was sent to Dubai citizens, and the seek-shelter order has been lifted.
