The Algerian Football Federation has officially appointed Vladimir Petkovic as the new head coach
Algeria's national team is set to be led by veteran manager Vladimir Petkovic.
The 60-year-old, born in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, will take the helm after a successful seven-year stint as head coach of the Swiss national team. Petkovic, who holds Bosnian citizenship, has signed a two-year contract, keeping him with the Algerian squad until July 2026.
Algeria won the 2019 AFCON grandly but failed abysmally in the 2021 and 2023 AFCONs. Following their 1-0 defeat to Mauritania in the 2023 tournament, which ended their run in Ivory Coast, the Algerian Football Federation parted ways with coach Djamel Belmadi after a six-year tenure.
Petkovic will be charged with bringing back the Fennec Foxes to their 1990 and 2019 days and also qualify Algeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
