The qualification picture continued to take shape as results from completed groups determined the teams advancing either through the top-two positions or as one of the eight best third-place sides.

The 2026 edition marks the first World Cup featuring 48 teams, with the tournament structure expanded to include a round of 32 before the traditional knockout stages.

Teams are now competing not only for the top two positions in their groups but also for additional qualification spots available to the strongest third-placed finishers.
