Panathinaikos defeated Olympiakos 79-68 in the Greek Cup final at Heraklion Arena, securing the club’s second consecutive title and its 22nd overall triumph in the competition under the leadership of Turkish head coach Ergin Ataman, who also manages the Türkiye national team.

The game opened with a balanced first quarter, ending 17-17, but Panathinaikos shifted momentum in the second period by scoring 28 points while limiting Olympiakos to 12. That surge gave Ataman’s side a 45-29 lead at halftime and set the tone for the remainder of the match.

Panathinaikos maintained control in the third quarter, preventing Olympiakos from closing the gap and extending the advantage to 69-51 heading into the final period. Although Olympiakos showed more urgency in the closing minutes, the deficit proved too large to overcome.

Turkish international Cedi Osman was among the players contributing to Panathinaikos’ performance during the final.

The victory marked Panathinaikos’ second consecutive Greek Cup and added another milestone to Ataman’s tenure with the club. Since taking charge, he has now won four trophies with Panathinaikos, further strengthening his record at the Greek side.

Nigel Hayes-Davis, an American forward for Panathinaikos, earned the Most Valuable Player award after finishing the final with 15 points.

Ataman praises Hayes-Davis performance

After the final whistle, Ataman said he was pleased with how his team delivered on the night.

"I am very happy for our fans. We showed that we are a good team. I hope we continue in the same way. We brought another trophy to the Panathinaikos museum. I am proud of my players for the fighting spirit they showed tonight," he said.

He also praised Nigel Hayes-Davis, highlighting his impact and experience. "His quality and level of experience are really very high," Ataman said.

The win gave Panathinaikos another domestic trophy and added to Ataman’s record since taking charge of the club.
