Fenerbahce has finalized the long-awaited transfer of Turkish international Kerem Akturkoglu from Benfica, ending weeks of speculation.
A private jet departed Lisbon this morning to bring the star winger to Istanbul.
Benfica confirmed the deal on their official website, stating, “A preliminary agreement has been reached with Fenerbahce for the transfer of Kerem Akturkoglu.
The deal includes a guaranteed fee of €22.5 million ($22,29 million), with additional performance-related payments that could bring the total value to €25 million.”
The announcement also noted that, due to a first-refusal clause, Galatasaray was informed of the terms.
Galatasaray Secretary General Eray Yazgan confirmed the club would not exercise their right to block the transfer.
“Benfica first consulted us regarding Fenerbahce’s offer for Kerem Akturkoglu. The five-day period to use our pre-emption right was set to expire on Sept. 5. We have decided not to intervene, allowing the player to be registered on Fenerbahce’s European list,” Yazgan said.
Following the announcements, a private jet left Lisbon this morning. Kerem Akturkoglu is expected to land at Sabiha Gokcen Airport around 6:00 p.m., officially joining Fenerbahce ahead of the new season.
