Nesrin Bas wins gold at European Wrestling Championship
The 21-year-old national athlete defeats her opponent, winning the first European championship of her career
Turkish national wrestler Nesrin Bas won the women’s 72-kilo category gold medal at the European Wrestling Championship in Romania.
In the organization held in the capital, Bucharest, Nesrin faced the last European champion, Romanian athlete Alexandra Nicoleta Anghel, in the final.
The 21-year-old national athlete defeated her opponent 5-1 with an outstanding performance and won the first European championship of her career.
Bas expressed great happiness and pride in her statement after the competition.
Stating that her long-term work and efforts were rewarded, Bas said she was happy to have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem and wave the flag, which she had always dreamt of.
She also thanked her teachers and family, crediting them for her accomplishment.
Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Askin Bak congratulated Bas and Zeynep Yetgil, who won the bronze medal, wishing them continued success.
