Social media star Jake Paul secured victory over 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, while Netflix could not cope with erupting user traffic worldwide, leaving millions of viewers frustrated.
Millions of users worldwide faced streaming issues during the fight, leading to a wave of backlash directed at the platform on social media. According to data from the outage tracking website Downdetector, there was a significant increase in complaints from Netflix users starting at 4:20 a.m. (UTC +03:00) on Nov. 16, 2024.
Users reported access issues with Netflix, affecting over 100,000 people as of 5:50 a.m. (UTC +03:00). Complaints began to subside around 5:20 a.m. (UTC +03:00).
Netflix has yet to issue an official statement regarding the issue, however, such issues are often attributed to high user traffic during major events.
In a highly anticipated boxing showdown, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul beat former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson by unanimous decision on Friday night.
The fight took place at AT&T Stadium in Texas, U.S., and was attended by a crowd of 72,300 fans. Paul controlled most of the bout, with judges scoring the fight 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in his favor.
This victory brings Paul's professional record to 11-1, with seven knockouts, and makes him only the sixth fighter in history to defeat Tyson, a Hall of Famer and boxing icon.
On the other hand, Tyson stated, "This wasn't my last fight," while Logan Paul, Jake Paul's brother, expressed interest in facing Tyson in a future bout.
Reportedly, Paul is set to earn $40 million for the fight, and Tyson is to receive half of that amount.
