In the buildup to today’s Euro 2024 Group F match, Türkiye’s national football team, buoyed by a commanding 3-1 win over Georgia highlighted by goals from Mert Muldur, Arda Guler and Kerem Akturkoglu, is gearing up to take on Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Portugal’s head coach Roberto Martinez and forward Rafael Leao shared their thoughts in a pre-match press conference ahead of today’s Euro 2024 Group F match, praising the Turkish team’s young players for bringing in zeal and next-level enthusiasm in the game.

After their impressive start against Georgia, all eyes are now on this highly anticipated encounter.

The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (TSI) at BVB Stadion on Saturday promising an enthralling showdown. Ahead of the clash, Portugal’s national team has praised Türkiye’s performance.

Martinez acknowledges Türkiye’s strength

Acknowledging Türkiye’s formidable challenge, Martinez observed, “The match against the Czech Republic wasn’t in our initial plans. We didn’t expect them to defend so deep. What mattered was our approach. We controlled the game, managed possession, but Türkiye is a different story.

They’ve undergone a youth revolution, a team that plays with great intensity. They also boast experienced players like Hakan Calhanoglu, who brings character. Montella has clearly established a solid system and prepared these players well.”

Türkiye plays compactly and we need to be very smart. Maintaining balance will be crucial. They demonstrated their strength against Georgia.

“However, we’ve identified a potential weakness: they may not prioritize defense as much, always thinking about their attacking prowess, which they execute very effectively. Their on-field organization suggests a tough match ahead,” Martinez added.

‘Tough battle ahead’

Looking ahead to the match, Rafael Leao commented: “Tomorrow will be a tough battle. Our opponents are a strong team with incredible players. They are well-organized on the field and utilize space effectively. We’ve done our analysis and know what to expect. We aim to exploit their vulnerabilities while relying on our quality in both defense and attack. It promises to be an exciting match.”

The encounter between Türkiye and Portugal is poised to deliver thrilling football as both teams vie for dominance in Group F of Euro 2024.
