President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlights Turkiye’s resolute stance against those aiming to establish a ‘Teroristan’ during this year’s first Cabinet meeting

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Tuesday discussed a range of critical issues, including a boost in pension rates and intensified efforts in the fight against terrorism during the first Cabinet meeting of the year.

The meeting, which began at 2:30 p.m., concluded after four hours with the president addressing the media with significant announcements.

Counterterrorism Highlights

The president said that the counterterrorism efforts were a focal point as he highlighted the recent achievements. In the last five days, security forces targeted 114 sites, neutralizing 78 terrorists.

Additionally, the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) successfully destroyed 60 critical facilities belonging to terrorist organizations. Law enforcement detained 465 individuals linked to terrorism.

Erdogan emphasized Turkiye’s resolute stance against those aiming to establish a “Teroristan.” He acknowledged the challenges faced because of the country’s robust strategy, thwarting attempts to create a haven for separatist leaders.

Future Initiatives and Security Measures

President Erdogan also affirmed new measures would be implemented in the coming months, securing not only justice for fallen heroes but also safeguarding the nation’s future. He underlined that there is no middle ground in this matter, reiterating that individuals are either with or against the country.

Regarding the return of Syrian refugees, the president noted that over 620,000 Syrians, under temporary protection status, had safely returned to designated secure zones. He emphasized Turkiye’s commitment to ensuring a terrorism-free environment for its citizens.

Centennial Celebrations and National Unity

With 2023 marking the centenary of the Republic of Turkiye, President Erdogan reflected on significant events, such as the passage of 100 warships through the Istanbul Strait.

He addressed concerns raised by both anti-Turkiye entities and certain nationalist circles, asserting the unwavering commitment to the principles of the republic.

Erdogan dismissed attempts to divert attention from the real agenda, stressing that discussions about the republic, state unity and the well-being of the country were unwarranted.

He cautioned against manipulated controversies and urged focusing on constructive actions and achievements.

Pension Increase

In a significant development, Erdogan delivered positive news for retirees, revealing a 5% additional raise for SSK and Bag-Kur pensioners. The minimum pension was also raised from TL 7,500 to TL 10,000.

In a bid to support the country’s 16 million retirees, President Erdogan announced a special bonus of TL 5,000 for each pensioner. Despite budgetary challenges, a significant increase of 37.57% was allocated to SSK and Bag-Kur pensions. Moreover, a 5% additional raise was decided for SSK and Bag-Kur retirees, bringing the total increase to 42.6%.

Concluding the speech, Erdogan underscored the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and prosperity of its citizens.
