A phone call between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump, held on Sunday, revealed important details about the evolving diplomatic relations between Türkiye and the United States, as well as regional issues, particularly concerning Syria.
The details were reported by Turkish media outlet TGRT Haber's Ankara Correspondent, Fatih Atik.
During the conversation, Trump reportedly placed U.S. Ambassador Tom Barrack, who is set to assume his post at any moment, at President Erdogan's disposal. "Our Ambassador will soon start his duties, and he is at your service, Mr. President," Trump reportedly told Erdogan. "You can speak directly with him, no need for any intermediaries."
Trump also reportedly took the opportunity to express his confidence in Türkiye's handling of regional security, specifically in Syria.
"In the region, in Syria, we trust Türkiye. Syria is entrusted to Türkiye," Trump reportedly stated, underscoring the trust the U.S. places in Ankara's leadership on key regional issues.
