Global outrage mounts over Navalny’s death as authorities confirm no signs of health issues prior to his passing

The Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny, 47, has passed away while in custody, as confirmed by the country’s prison service. While many political leaders were at the Munich Security Conference, they expressed their reaction to his death and demanded questions from Russia about Navalny’s conditions.

Alexei Navalny’s wife, Yulia Navalny delivered a poignant address at the Munich Security Conference. She shared the challenging decision between staying in Munich to speak or returning immediately to her children, ultimately honoring her husband’s legacy by addressing the conference.

Expressing uncertainty regarding recent events, she emphasized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s responsibility for the situation in her country. She said, “If this is true, I want Putin and everyone around him to know that they will be held accountable for everything they did to our country, to my family. And this day will happen very soon.”

“No indications of health issues”

Russian state media reported no indications of health issues during a video link appearance by Navalny in court on Thursday. According to a regional court, Navalny actively participated in the proceedings and presented arguments to defend his position without expressing any complaints about his health.

Alexei Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, has said her son was “alive, healthy and happy” when she last saw him on Monday.

Following new information, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares demanded a “clarification of the circumstances” of the death of Navalny in prison.

The UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron asserted that Navalny courageously fought against corruption in Russia. He accused the Putin regime of fabricating charges against Navalny, poisoning him, and ultimately sending him to a harsh penal colony in the Arctic, where he tragically died.

Politicians from Germany, the United States, Poland, Ukraine and the EU also demanded his death be investigated.
