Local elections in Türkiye kick off as polls open at 7 am
Million go to polls as voting starts at 7 a.m. for 32 eastern provinces and 8 a.m. for the rest of the provinces in Türkiye
The local administration general elections voting process started at 7 a.m. in 32 provinces and will end at 4 p.m.
In the other provinces, the voting process started at 8 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m.
The mayors of 81 provinces, 973 districts, and 390 neighborhoods will be elected in the March 31 local elections.
Voting has commenced in the following areas: Adiyaman, Agri, Artvin, Bingol, Bitlis, Diyarbakir, Elazig, Erzincan, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Giresun, Gumushane, Hakkari, Kars, Malatya, Kahramanmaras, Mardin, Mus, Ordu, Rize, Siirt, Sivas, Trabzon, Tunceli, Sanliurfa, Van, Bayburt, Batman, Sirnak, Ardahan, Igdir, and Kilis.
Istanbul gears up for the election
In Istanbul, officials responsible for managing the ballot boxes during the local elections began their duties by taking the oath related to the ballot boxes.
The ballot box officers, as well as party observers, who are on duty, arrived at the schools where they will work early in the morning.
The officials, who were preparing before the voting process began at Uskudar Aziz Mahmud Hudayi Anatolian Imam Hatip High School and Kagithane Asik Veysel Primary School, took their oaths.
The oath of the officials at the ballot box is as follows: “Without being under the influence of anyone, without fear from anyone, for the accurate and complete determination of the election results, I swear on my honor, conscience, and all that is sacred to me that I will carry out my duty in accordance with the law.”
