A recent survey conducted in the United States shows that 60% of Generation Z voters aged 18-24 support Hamas over Israel in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
The poll, carried out by Harvard University’s American Political Studies Center in partnership with The Harris Poll, surveyed U.S. voters on Aug. 20-21, 2025.
Participants were asked, “In the Israel-Hamas conflict, who do you support: Israel or Hamas?”
Age Group | Support for Hamas | Support for Israel |
---|---|---|
18-24 | 60% | 40% |
25-34 | 35% | 65% |
35-44 | 30% | 70% |
45-54 | 26% | 74% |
55-64 | 16% | 84% |
Among respondents aged 18-24, 60% expressed support for Hamas.
Support for Israel increased with age: 65% of those aged 25-34, 70% of 35-44-year-olds, 74% of 45-54-year-olds, and 84% of those aged 55-64 said they backed Israel.
The poll highlights a sharp generational divide in U.S. public opinion over the conflict.
Since October 2023, Israel has killed nearly 63,500 Palestinians in Gaza.
The ongoing military campaign has devastated the enclave, creating widespread famine and humanitarian crises.
Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its actions in the enclave.
