Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves described Türkiye as his “second homeland” during a meeting with a visiting Turkish women’s business delegation at the Presidential Palace in San Jose.
The delegation, led by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Costa Rica Naciye Gokcen Kaya, included members of the Aegean Businesswomen Association (EGİKAD) and the Women Entrepreneurs Board of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB).
First Lady Signe Zeikate welcomed the Turkish delegation on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.
She expressed her pleasure at hosting leading Turkish businesswomen and highlighted her readiness to cooperate on joint projects focusing on women’s leadership, sustainable development, and social equality.
The meeting, organized through the initiative of Ambassador Kaya, aimed to strengthen the economic, cultural, and diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Costa Rica, enhance friendly ties, and promote collaborative projects between the two nations.
President Chaves later met the Turkish delegation at the Presidential Office.
He recalled his years as Chief Economist at the World Bank from 2004 to 2008, noting that he had visited nearly every region of Türkiye during that period and came to know the character of the Turkish people closely.
Speaking warmly and switching to Turkish during the meeting, Chaves said, “Türkiye is my second homeland.”
He praised the Turkish people, saying, “They are honest, trustworthy, and keep their word. If a Turk makes a promise, they fulfill it. I have always admired this quality of the Turkish nation.”
Chaves also emphasized Costa Rica’s readiness to facilitate cooperation and strengthen friendly relations with Türkiye across all sectors.
Ambassador Naciye Gokcen Kaya said she was honored to bring together strong Turkish women in Costa Rica on the 102nd anniversary of the Republic.
“This represents the vision that Ataturk gave to Turkish women. Wherever they go, Turkish women are the strongest representatives of our country through their courage, diligence, and productivity,” Kaya stated.
The Turkish business delegation included Sahika Yorukoglu, Isin Yilmaz, Elif Ulger Yalcin, Deniz Celep, Asli Odabasi, Ayhan Seyfeli, Feray Saracoglu, Nesrin Ricketts, Hatice Nur Uzgenc, and Funda Saglam.
The visit was regarded as an important step in strengthening Türkiye’s diplomatic visibility in Latin America and promoting women-led entrepreneurship as a foundation for bilateral economic relations.
