President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed satisfaction Tuesday following a high-level meeting with President Donald Trump and regional leaders on the Gaza crisis, describing the closed-door discussions as "very, very productive and positive."
Speaking to reporters in front of the Turkevi Center in New York City, Erdogan said the gathering had concluded successfully. "We have just concluded a very, very productive and positive meeting. I'm satisfied — may the outcome be beneficial," the Turkish president told journalists.
The meeting, held within the scope of the 80th United Nations General Assembly at UN headquarters, brought together leaders from Türkiye, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan alongside Trump to address the ongoing Gaza conflict.
When asked whether the Gaza summit could lead to tangible steps toward peace and protecting innocent civilians, Erdogan indicated that concrete outcomes would soon be announced. "The final declaration will likely be announced shortly. With statements from Trump and Tamim (Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani), the outcome of tonight's meeting will be made clear," he said.
Erdogan sat alongside Trump during the closed-door session, which excluded press coverage. The Turkish president's positive assessment aligned with Trump's own characterization of the talks as "very successful," though neither leader provided specific details about potential agreements or commitments.
The meeting comes as Türkiye continues engaging in Middle Eastern diplomacy under Erdogan's leadership. Türkiye has maintained an active role in regional conflicts and has frequently called for international action to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Trump had earlier described the multilateral meeting as "very important," telling reporters while meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron that the goal was to "stop that" and secure the return of hostages. The White House had previously confirmed the participation of the eight nations but provided limited details about the specific agenda.
As diplomatic efforts continue, Erdogan's positive assessment suggests potential progress in regional discussions, with the promised joint declaration expected to clarify the meeting's concrete outcomes and next steps in addressing the Gaza crisis.
