Gaza aid Trucks to enter via Kerem Shalom Crossing
Approximately 200 aid trucks, including four fuel trucks, are anticipated to cross into Gaza on Sunday through the Kerem Shalom border crossing, according to Khaled Zayed, the head of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society in North Sinai.
The closure of the Rafah border crossing, Gaza’s primary entry point for humanitarian aid and commercial supplies, has lasted nearly three weeks. This closure came into effect when Israel assumed control of the Palestinian side of the crossing on May 6 as part of its escalated military operations in the region.
With the Rafah crossing shuttered, critical food supplies destined for Gaza have begun to spoil, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
In response to the urgent need for aid access, Egypt and the U.S. reached an agreement on May 24 to channel assistance through Israel’s nearby Kerem Shalom crossing until legal arrangements are finalized to reopen Rafah from the Palestinian side, as announced by the Egyptian presidency.
Warnings of an impending famine in parts of Gaza have been issued by global hunger monitors, highlighting the dire situation faced by the 2.3 million people residing in the region.
