Libya’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Mohammed Dbeibah said an investigation into the plane crash that killed a Libyan military delegation near Ankara is continuing with “full seriousness and responsibility” in close cooperation with Türkiye.
Dbeibah spoke during a military ceremony held at Libya’s Defense Ministry after the remains of the delegation arrived in the capital, Tripoli.
Türkiye’s Chief of General Staff Gen. Selcuk Bayraktaroglu and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Tripoli Guven Begec attended the ceremony.
Dbeibah described the deceased officials as not only military leaders but also statesmen known for wisdom, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.
He reaffirmed that Libya is closely following the investigation together with Türkiye and expressed condolences to the families of those who died.
He also thanked officials from Türkiye and other countries who attended the ceremony and stood with Libya during the period of mourning.
Libya’s Presidential Council head Mohammed al-Menfi also addressed the ceremony, saying the country was bidding farewell to some of its most distinguished figures.
Menfi said the fallen commanders were known for their loyalty, discipline and quiet dedication, adding that they worked without seeking recognition and served Libya with commitment to their oath, country and people.
Speaking in his capacity as supreme commander of Libya’s armed forces, Menfi announced that the ranks of the late Chief of General Staff Mohammed al-Haddad and Ground Forces Commander Feyturi al-Gribil had been posthumously elevated to honor their service.
“This tragedy united us, as we have united before in moments of great truth,” Menfi said, adding that Libya’s people came together in shared grief, loyalty and respect.
The jet carrying Haddad and his delegation crashed near Haymana, close to Ankara, on Dec. 23.
All five members of the Libyan military delegation and the crew on board were killed.
