A catastrophic explosion tore through an explosives manufacturing plant in rural Tennessee on Friday, leaving 19 people unaccounted for and one person feared dead, according to local authorities who described the incident as a "very devastating blast."
The explosion obliterated the Accurate Energetic Systems facility in Bucksnort, a small community located roughly 70 miles southwest of Nashville. Multiple people were transported to area hospitals, though authorities have not yet released the number of injured.
Local officials said "several people" remain unaccounted for following the blast at the industrial site, which produces and stores a range of explosive materials.
AES manufactures bulk explosives, shaped charges, demolition kits, and specialized items for military, defense, aerospace, demolition, mining, and oil industries, according to company information. The facility's operations involve handling highly volatile materials used across multiple sectors.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, though the scale of destruction has complicated rescue and recovery efforts. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion or whether any safety protocols were breached prior to the incident.
The company operates in an industrial corridor known for defense contracting and specialized manufacturing. Bucksnort, an unincorporated community in Hickman County, has limited residential development near the facility.
