Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin's previous statements regarding peace negotiations in Istanbul remain valid, stating, "The Russian delegation will await the Ukrainian delegation tomorrow (on Thursday) in Istanbul."
Peskov addressed journalists in Moscow, responding to questions about ongoing developments in Russian-Ukrainian relations and potential peace talks.
When asked about who would comprise the Russian delegation attending the peace negotiations in Istanbul, Peskov responded, "We will announce this when instructions come from the President on this matter. For now, there are no such instructions. Putin's May 11 statements remain valid. The Russian delegation will await the Ukrainian delegation tomorrow in Istanbul."
Peskov also addressed French President Emmanuel Macron's statement regarding his readiness to begin discussions on deploying nuclear weapon-carrying aircraft to European countries. The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that such actions would not contribute to security and stability on the European continent.
Peskov stressed that Russia, the United States, and European countries possessing nuclear weapons should undertake initiatives aimed at establishing a strategic security architecture in Europe. "The system of stability and security in Europe is in poor condition due to specific reasons," he stated.
When asked about the possibility of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visiting Russia and meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Peskov indicated that they would provide updates on any developments regarding this matter.
The spokesman also noted that Putin would conduct international telephone conversations later in the day.
The Istanbul talks mark a potentially significant diplomatic development in the ongoing conflict that began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed his intention to personally attend the talks, the Kremlin has yet to announce whether Putin will participate personally.
U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed support for the talks and indicated that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other American officials will attend the negotiations in Istanbul.
