The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Thursday offered condolences to the families of victims and the Indian people following a fatal aircraft accident in Ahmedabad, Gujarat state.
The ministry issued a written statement expressing deep sorrow over the crash that occurred near Ahmedabad airport.
"We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident and to the people of India," the statement said.
The passenger aircraft, carrying 242 people and bound for London's Gatwick Airport, crashed five minutes after takeoff from the airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat state. The plane was identified as a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
No official explanation has been provided regarding the cause of the crash.
According to local media, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik said 204 people died in the accident, with 41 others injured.
The crash represents one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent Indian history, occurring in the country's western state of Gujarat. Ahmedabad serves as Gujarat's largest city and a major commercial hub.
