President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that Ukrainian forces carried out overnight strikes on targets linked to Russia’s Yaroslavl oil refinery, located about 700 kilometers from Ukrainian territory.
Zelenskyy said the strikes were part of Ukraine’s long-range drone operations against Russian oil refining and export assets, following a report by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
“We are bringing the war back home—to Russia—and that’s only fair,” Zelenskyy said on the U.S. social media platform X.
Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces continued defensive operations in designated areas of active operations.
“Today, there was a report by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi on the use of long-range drones against Russian oil refining and export assets,” he said.
“In particular, overnight, the Defense Forces of Ukraine operated against targets associated with the Yaroslavl oil refinery—about 700 kilometers from our territory,” Zelenskyy added.
He said there were also strikes on designated targets in what he described as temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory.
Kyiv is preparing “other forms” of long-range sanctions and midrange strikes in response to Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and communities, he said.
Earlier Monday, Zelenskyy said Russia had reduced its active oil wells and oil refining capacity following Ukrainian “long-range sanctions.”
He also claimed Russia’s oil refining capacity had declined by at least 10% in the first few months of the year.
“We see that our Ukrainian long-range sanctions are truly effective, and we will continue to scale up this line of our active actions,” he said.
Zelenskyy said he discussed frontline activity in detail with Syrskyi.
He claimed Russian losses since the beginning of 2026 had exceeded 145,000 personnel, including nearly 86,000 killed, at least 59,000 seriously wounded and more than 800 Russian service members taken prisoner.
“In the border areas of the Sumy region, we are achieving the designated objectives,” Zelenskyy said.
“We continue destroying Russian personnel and the occupiers’ equipment in other sectors as well,” he added.
Zelenskyy thanked Ukrainian drone operators for their precision and said active operations were ongoing.
“The Airborne Assault Forces and assault units conducting these operations deserve special recognition,” he said.
“I thank every Ukrainian unit that is achieving results,” he added.
