The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles to Finland, valued at $1.07 billion.
In a statement, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), part of the U.S. Department of Defense, confirmed that the deal covers three AIM-120D missiles and related equipment.
The DSCA said the sale will “improve Finland’s ability to meet current and future threats” and enhance the country’s overall security.
According to the agency, Finland already operates AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles and will face no difficulties integrating the new system into its armed forces.
The sale is not expected to alter the basic military balance in the region.
The State Department has formally notified Congress of the decision—a necessary step before the transaction can proceed.
