The 164-meter superyacht Eclipse, owned by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, has left the Marmaris district in Mugla after being anchored there for nearly two and a half years.
The vessel, which had been stationed at Albatros Marina, departed the southwestern town to undergo maintenance at a shipyard in Istanbul.
Measuring 22 meters wide and six decks high, Eclipse is among the largest private yachts in the world. The vessel features a helipad, swimming pool, suites, a gym, and even a small submarine.
Its size and extensive facilities have drawn attention since it first arrived on Türkiye’s coast.
Abramovich, often described as an oligarch—a term used for pro-government Russian business magnates—holds stakes in the steel giant Evraz and nickel producer Norilsk Nickel. He has been under sanctions by the United Kingdom, the European Union, Canada, Australia, and Switzerland since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.
In 2022, Abramovich sold the English football club Chelsea FC to American billionaire Todd Boehly for around $5 billion. He announced that the proceeds would be donated to charities supporting victims of the war. However, due to a dispute with the British government over the distribution of the funds, his assets were frozen.
Following the expiration of his U.K. investor visa in 2018, Abramovich obtained Israeli citizenship and later became a Portuguese citizen in 2021.
