Apple on Tuesday introduced its iPhone 17 series at its annual hardware event, featuring four new models including the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, alongside updated Apple Watch models with expanded health monitoring capabilities.

The standout device of the event was the iPhone 17 Air, measuring just 5.6mm thick and featuring a 6.5-inch display with ProMotion technology supporting up to 120Hz refresh rates. Apple redesigned the device's internal architecture to maximize battery space while maintaining what the company calls "all-day battery life" in its thinnest form factor.

The iPhone 17 Air operates exclusively on eSIM technology worldwide, eliminating the physical SIM card slot to create additional internal space. The device features a single 48MP Fusion camera system with 2x telephoto capabilities and runs on the A19 Pro chip, which Apple says delivers "MacBook-level processing power."

Pro models gain vapor chamber cooling and enhanced camera systems

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models feature a new vapor chamber cooling system that Apple claims delivers 40 percent better sustained performance. Both devices include three 48MP cameras, with the telephoto system offering up to 8x optical zoom capabilities.

The Pro models support advanced video recording features including ProRes RAW capture and Genlock for video syncing across multiple cameras. All iPhone 17 models now start with 256GB of storage, with a 2TB configuration available for the Pro Max model.

Apple Watch gains hypertension detection and satellite connectivity

Apple introduced three new Apple Watch models, with the flagship Ultra 3 featuring satellite connectivity for emergency SOS, messaging and Find My services. The Ultra 3 offers up to 42 hours of battery life and includes a redesigned display using wide-angle OLED technology.

The Apple Watch Series 11 introduces hypertension detection capabilities, using optical heart rate sensors and new algorithms to identify patterns that could indicate high blood pressure. Apple expects FDA clearance for the feature and plans availability in 150 countries.

Pricing and availability across new product lineup

The iPhone 17 starts at $799, the iPhone 17 Air at $999, and the iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099. All models are available for pre-order today with general availability beginning September 19.

The Apple Watch lineup includes the SE 3 starting at $249, Series 11 at $399, and Ultra 3 at $799. The new watches support 5G connectivity and include enhanced health monitoring features across all price points.
