The Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) has opened a Türkiye representation office in Istanbul in a move designed to deepen tourism cooperation between the two countries and raise the visibility of Azerbaijan’s tourism brand in the Turkish market.
The office was officially launched on Dec. 9 at a ceremony attended by Fuad Nagiyev, chairman of the Azerbaijan State Tourism Agency; Narmin Mustafayeva from the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul; ATB CEO Florian Sengstschmid; and tourism sector representatives and members of the media from both Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
In his opening remarks, Nagiyev underlined that bringing the Istanbul representation office into operation marks a new turning point in the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism.
He noted that the office is expected to help push bilateral relations forward in a more structured and effective way, while also playing a key role in strengthening Azerbaijan’s tourism brand and making it more widely known among travelers in Türkiye.
The State Tourism Agency, which is the public body overseeing tourism policy and development in Azerbaijan, works together with ATB to coordinate this outreach.
The new Istanbul office aims to reinforce cooperation with the Turkish tourism industry and to promote Azerbaijan’s diverse tourism potential among broader audiences.
According to the announcement, the representation will run marketing and media campaigns in the Turkish market, organize events, and stay in direct contact with travel agencies and media organizations.
A representation office of this kind functions as a local branch that manages promotion, communication, and partnerships in a specific foreign country, allowing tourism authorities to maintain closer and more regular dialogue with local stakeholders.
The opening ceremony continued with a cultural program, while participants exchanged views on the future of tourism relations and discussed possible steps to further strengthen cooperation.
Nagiyev also pointed out that interest from Turkish visitors in Azerbaijan has been growing steadily. Over the past five years, citizens of the Republic of Türkiye have consistently ranked second among foreign visitors arriving in the country.
The statement highlighted that the possibility for Turkish citizens to travel to Azerbaijan using only their national identity cards, without needing a passport, has made travel easier.
Regular flights operated by AZAL and Turkish Airlines between the two countries have also contributed significantly to this trend, helping the number of Turkish visitors to triple between 2020 and 2024.
