Electric car sales in Türkiye increase by 175.7% in first half of 2024

Passenger car sales in Türkiye rose 7.3% year-on-year to 462,955 units in the first half of this year, according to data released by an industry group on Wednesday.

A total of 577,981 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold across the country from January to June, marking a 3.7% annual increase, according to a statement by the Automotive Distributors’ and Mobility Association (ODMD).

However, sales of light commercial vehicles saw a decline, with 115,026 units sold, down 8.7% from the previous year.

In the six months, hybrid cars made up 14% of total automobile sales, with 64,921 units sold, representing a 46.2% annual increase.

Surge in electric car sales

Electric car sales saw a significant surge, with a 175.7% year-on-year increase in January-June, reaching 39,405 units.

In June, the automobile market experienced a slight decline, narrowing 3.6% year-on-year to 87,858 units, while light commercial vehicle sales fell 12.6% to 18,380 units.
