Türkiye recorded a nearly 102% year-on-year increase in the number of registered electric vehicles (EVs) in 2025, with figures rising from 183,776 in 2024 to 370,591 by the end of the year.

As of 2025-end, electric vehicles made up 2.1% of Türkiye’s 17.37 million registered passenger cars, up from 1.1% the year before, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) reported.

Hybrid vehicles also see steady rise in Türkiye

Hybrid vehicles, which combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor, continued their upward trend as well. The number of registered hybrid vehicles in Türkiye reached 697,027 in 2025, up from 391,296 in 2024.

This marks a year-on-year increase of approximately 78%. The share of hybrid vehicles in the total passenger car fleet rose to 4% in 2025, from 2.4% the previous year.

Hybrid vehicles were first recorded in Türkiye in 2011, with just 23 units at the time. The number had climbed to 13,877 by 2019 and over 222,000 by the end of 2023.

Charging growth, local models drive EV uptake

The rise in EV registrations comes amid expanding charging infrastructure, growing environmental awareness, and the growing presence of domestic automaker Togg, whose market entry has helped accelerate consumer adoption.

The government's focus on building out charging station infrastructure nationwide has also supported this momentum, especially in urban areas and along highway corridors.

Electric vehicles, which operate with lower carbon emissions than traditional combustion engine cars, are also quieter and more energy-efficient, making them attractive for both environmental and practical reasons.
