Türkiye’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar met with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Wednesday in Milan during the Gastech 2025 Forum, where he highlighted expanding cooperation with Washington and announced a series of new natural gas supply agreements.
Bayraktar said it was his first meeting with Wright, who took office earlier this year, and emphasized discussions on oil and gas exploration, LNG trade, nuclear energy and critical minerals.
He said he believes Türkiye-U.S. energy relations will grow stronger “on the basis of shared vision and mutual trust” in line with goals set by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Bayraktar announced supply contracts between Türkiye’s state energy company BOTAS and international partners. BOTAS signed a deal with Norway’s Equinor for 1.5 billion cubic meters of LNG over three years. He said the agreement would strengthen predictability in Türkiye’s LNG portfolio and support the country’s policy of diversification and energy security.
Another agreement was concluded with Japan’s JERA, one of the country’s leading energy firms, covering 600 million cubic meters of LNG. Bayraktar said the deal would also open the way for assessing regional commercial opportunities.
In a separate statement, the ministry said Bayraktar also held talks with executives from Italy’s Edison, ConocoPhillips and Chevron.
The statement recalled that BOTAŞ had reached LNG agreements with BP, ENI and Shell a day earlier, totaling 8.7 billion cubic meters.
With the additional five agreements signed this week, Türkiye has now committed to approximately 15 billion cubic meters of gas supply for 2026 to 2028.
The ministry added that LNG shipments under the new contracts are scheduled to begin during the winter months.
