Epic Games Store is set to launch on iOS devices in Europe following the regulations outlined in the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

This development was shared through a statement on Twitter or another platform by the Epic Games Newsroom account, expressing enthusiasm for expanding opportunities for developers on various platforms.

Notably, Epic Games removed Fortnite from the App Store in 2020 because of Apple’s practice of imposing up to 30% commissions on sales.

Tim Sweeney, the CEO and founder of Epic, acknowledged Apple’s gesture of granting Epic Games Sweden AB a developer account under the Digital Markets Act for operating the Epic Games Store and Fortnite in Europe amid their ongoing antitrust dispute.

Epic Games Sweden AB, the Swedish division of Epic Games, will oversee the operations of the Epic Games Store in Europe.

While the Fortnite Twitter account announced the game’s return earlier, the broader introduction of the Epic Games Store on iOS marks a significant progression.

The DMA, enacted in 2022, is a pivotal regulatory measure in the EU designed to address the dominance of major tech companies and promote competition by compelling companies like Google and Apple to allow greater access to their platforms and services.

Although the Epic Games Store will not be accessible on iOS in the U.K. initially, the U.K.’s Digital Markets Bill may introduce similar provisions to the DMA for iOS users.

This legislation is currently under discussion in Parliament and, if approved, could enable Epic to make similar expansions beyond the EU.
