Google has announced that it will establish a new Google Cloud region in Türkiye as part of a decade-long investment program worth $2 billion, marking one of the company’s largest digital commitments in the region.

The announcement came during Google Cloud Day in Istanbul, where government officials, industry leaders and technology specialists gathered to discuss the country’s advancing digital needs.

A strategic alliance designed to accelerate Türkiye’s digital ecosystem

The event highlighted the strategic partnership between Google and Turkcell, which will jointly build a world-class infrastructure intended to strengthen cloud innovation across Türkiye and neighboring markets. The project reflects a long-term commitment to support nationwide digitalization and expand the capacity of artificial intelligence applications.

Google Cloud Country Director Onder Guler said the new region would bring first-class cloud tools directly to institutions in Türkiye and help unlock faster, more secure and regulation-aligned digital operations. He noted that the partnership with Turkcell allows the two companies to “deliver higher speed, enhanced security and regulatory compliance” to enterprises seeking advanced cloud solutions.

Turkcell pushes forward with a $1 billion cloud vision

Turkcell CEO Ali Taha Koc described the collaboration as a turning point in Türkiye’s digital journey, saying it strengthens Turkcell’s position as a national technology leader. He added that the initiative aligns closely with Türkiye’s forward-looking innovation agenda and will allow customers to access cutting-edge AI tools more quickly.

Koc explained that Turkcell is committed to investing $1 billion in data centers and cloud technologies, a move expected to contribute up to $5 billion annually to the country’s digital ecosystem. He underlined that AI-driven development will help Turkish companies compete more effectively on a global scale.

High-performance cloud capacity tailored for Türkiye’s growing demand

The planned Google Cloud Türkiye region will join Google’s global network of 42 regions and 127 zones, offering improved performance and reliability for businesses of all sizes across sectors including retail, media, finance, healthcare and the public domain. The new region aims to meet rising demand for low-latency services and secure data processing, particularly as institutions adopt more cloud-based AI tools.

Local access to advanced analytics, cybersecurity capabilities and enterprise-level digital solutions will help organizations improve operational speed and efficiency. Google also highlighted that data stored within Türkiye, alongside encrypted transmission systems, strict access controls and advanced threat detection, will meet global security and compliance standards. Google emphasized that users across Türkiye and surrounding countries will benefit from faster, uninterrupted digital experiences.
