Demand for cruise holidays is picking up rapidly ahead of Türkiye’s upcoming nine-day Eid al-Adha holiday, with Greek islands, Mediterranean coastal routes and Norway’s fjords standing out as the most sought-after destinations, according to industry representatives.
As travel activity begins to pick up ahead of the public holiday, cruise tourism is emerging as one of the preferred options for travelers looking to make the most of a shorter break.
Sector representatives say interest has continued to rise, particularly because cruise packages allow visitors to explore multiple destinations within a single trip while combining transport, accommodation and entertainment.
According to comments shared by Sea Genesis Group Chairman Ahmet Yazici, cruise tourism is increasingly being viewed as more than a luxury holiday option, especially during shorter holiday periods such as Eid breaks.
Yazici said travelers are increasingly drawn to the convenience of seeing several destinations in a limited timeframe while enjoying a more comfortable travel experience. He noted that the strongest demand this year has been centered on Norway’s fjords, Mediterranean coastal destinations and Greek island routes.
He also pointed to the practical appeal of cruise holidays, saying such trips allow passengers to visit several countries and cities with a single suitcase, while accommodation, transportation, food and entertainment are included in the package.
According to Yazici, this setup has become particularly attractive for families and busy professionals seeking an easier travel option.
Among the destinations gaining traction this year are Norway’s fjords, widely known for dramatic glacier-carved valleys, steep cliffs and scenic landscapes. The routes have increasingly drawn interest from Turkish holidaymakers looking for different travel experiences.
Meanwhile, Mediterranean cruise programs covering ports in Italy, Spain and France have also started to stand out among preferred routes during the Eid holiday period.
Greek islands have also moved to the forefront of holiday plans, particularly for travelers seeking shorter international trips. Islands accessible through Türkiye’s visa-on-arrival system, a simplified entry procedure available at designated ports for certain Greek islands, are seeing especially strong demand.
The rise in interest has also been supported by special ferry and travel packages offered by IDO, with Chios, Lesbos, Samos and Rhodes among the destinations attracting the most attention.
Yazici said easier transport access and visa-on-arrival procedures had helped turn the Greek islands into one of the strongest routes for the Eid period. He added that interest in cruise and ferry travel is expected to continue building up throughout the summer season.
