Take-Two Interactive confirmed on Thursday that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will open on June 25. This is the first official step toward releasing one of the most anticipated video games in years.
Rockstar Games plans to launch the game on Nov. 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This will be the eighth main Grand Theft Auto game and the first since GTA V came out in September 2013. The 13-year gap between main releases is the longest in the series.
GTA VI was first planned for release in fall 2025, but Rockstar moved it to May 26, 2026. In November 2025, the studio announced another delay, setting the new date for November 2026. They said the extra time would help the team "finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." There is no confirmed PC release date yet, as Rockstar has usually released games on consoles first.
GTA VI takes place in Leonida, a fictional U.S. state inspired by Florida. The story follows criminal partners Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, marking the first time a main Grand Theft Auto game has a playable female lead. The open world also brings back Vice City, the Miami-like setting last seen in a standalone game in 2002.
The first trailer for the game was released in December 2023 and garnered over 93 million views on YouTube within 24 hours. The second trailer, released in May 2025, reached more than 475 million views across all platforms on its first day.
GTA V, which came out in 2013, is still the second-best-selling video game ever, earning more than $8.6 billion over several console generations. Its huge success has set high expectations for GTA VI, and industry experts estimate its development budget is well over $2 billion.
Rockstar has not yet shared details about pricing or edition options before pre-sales open on June 25.
