Hitachi Energy announced a $70 million investment to expand its transformer manufacturing operations in Türkiye’s Kocaeli by establishing a new production facility.
The move is part of the company's broader effort to meet accelerating demand for reliable, sustainable energy infrastructure across Türkiye, Europe, and Asia, the company stated on Thursday.
The company plans to build a new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Dilovasi, located in northwestern Türkiye. This 45,000-square-meter facility will increase Hitachi Energy's transformer production capacity by 70% and create 30% more jobs in the region. The site is set for completion by 2026.
The new factory will replace the company’s existing plant in Kartal, relocating the workforce to a more advanced site. Employees are expected to benefit from cutting-edge technology, enhanced digital systems, and improved health and safety standards.
Positioning the factory within the Dilovasi Organized Industrial Zone offers logistical advantages, particularly due to its proximity to a major commercial port. This will simplify the transportation of large-scale transformers and reduce delivery lead times, allowing the company to respond more efficiently to customer needs.
According to Hitachi Energy Türkiye’s General Manager Yasemin Hosder Oztekin, the investment marks a critical step in supporting energy transition goals and ensuring better alignment with customers’ decarbonization needs. She noted that moving to the new site would provide both operational and environmental benefits.
Demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, the new facility will be an ultra-low-carbon factory designed to cut carbon emissions by approximately 95%. This aligns with the company’s broader strategy to reach ambitious climate targets while enabling an efficient and environmentally conscious production model.
The project will also streamline operations by integrating advanced digital tools, helping simplify workflows and reduce energy use. In doing so, the plant is expected to support not only sustainable production but also long-term energy security in the region.
