Internet users across Türkiye were left without access on Friday after internet service provider TurkNet suffered a nationwide outage, leaving customers offline across the country and affecting access to some online services.
As of 12:06 p.m. local time (GMT+3), outage tracker Downdetector had logged 1,878 reports, with most users citing broadband internet problems.
TurkNet acknowledged the outage in a statement posted on X, saying the disruption was affecting its internet services nationwide and that technical teams were working to restore connectivity as quickly as possible.
The company did not disclose the cause of the outage or provide a timeline for when normal service would resume.
Hours later, at 4:16 p.m. local time, TurkNet announced that the issue had been resolved, attributing the disruption to an unexpected problem in the systems that route internet traffic and adding that internet access had been gradually restored following technical intervention.
Internet monitoring organization NetBlocks also confirmed the incident, saying network data showed TurkNet was experiencing a nationwide outage, supporting widespread user complaints.
Large-scale internet outages can interrupt broadband access for households and businesses while also affecting online platforms and digital services that rely on the provider's network.
Depending on the scope of the disruption, users may be unable to browse the web, access cloud-based applications, stream content, make Wi-Fi calls or use messaging platforms connected through fixed broadband.
Experts generally recommend checking whether the disruption is network-wide before restarting routers or modems repeatedly, as repeated reboots are unlikely to restore service during a confirmed provider outage.
Users can instead monitor their provider's official status channels, use outage-tracking platforms such as Downdetector, or temporarily switch to mobile data or a hotspot if available.
Once service is restored, routers and modems may require a single restart to establish a fresh connection.
If problems persist after the provider reports the outage has been resolved, users are generally advised to power-cycle their networking equipment and contact customer support for further assistance.
