Qatar Airways announced on Sunday that it has arranged a limited number of flights to and from Doha after aviation authorities approved a temporary operating corridor while Qatari airspace remains closed.
Following the temporary authorization, Qatar Airways plans to receive a small group of inbound flights at Hamad International Airport on March 9. The services are scheduled to arrive from Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Zurich and Muscat.
Tourists and transit passengers in Doha are waiting for evacuation flights after the Iran conflict forced Qatar to shut its airspace, suspending most airline operations and stranding travelers at the Gulf’s main aviation hub.
In a statement, the carrier stated that it organized several outbound repatriation flights on Mar. 8, departing from Hamad International Airport to Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, London Heathrow and Zurich.
According to the airline, seats were assigned directly to affected travelers, with priority given to stranded families, elderly passengers, and people with urgent medical or humanitarian travel needs.
The airline said regular commercial flights remain suspended and will only resume once the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority confirms that the country’s airspace has fully reopened and is safe for normal traffic. It added that another operational update is expected on March 9.
Qatar Airways also said the limited arrivals should not be seen as a resumption of its regular international flight schedule.
Qatar closed its airspace on Feb. 28 after U.S.-Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran, citing "precautionary measures" in response to regional developments.
On Friday evening, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority announced a limited reopening of the airspace, saying flights would operate on designated contingency routes with restricted capacity in coordination with the Qatari armed forces.
