Saudi Arabia-based ACWA Power is preparing to invest approximately $2 billion in renewable energy projects in Türkiye. The company plans to build two solar power plants, each with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, in the Sivas and Karaman regions.
According to a report by Emre Eser from CNBC-e, ACWA Power is close to signing agreements to establish a total of 2 gigawatts of solar energy capacity in Türkiye.
The investment will follow a government-to-government agreement model, similar to the frameworks used for major projects such as the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).
This model, supported by legislation, streamlines processes such as zoning permits and technical approvals, significantly reducing bureaucratic obstacles.
During negotiations, ACWA Power expressed its initial intention to import solar panels and equipment from China. However, both parties have reportedly agreed on local content requirements.
Industry representatives confirmed that ACWA Power has reached out to Türkiye-based manufacturers to request proposals for equipment and component production.
