After social media reports showing isolated violent incidents at Türkiye's Black Sea resorts involving Arab tourists, Turkish authorities assured visitors that there is no security issue in popular Black Sea cities such as Rize and Trabzon.
As a few videos surface on social media, some Arab influencers have called on tourists to reconsider travel to Türkiye. However, Turkish authorities maintain that security measures remain robust and emphasize that visitors of all nationalities are welcome, particularly in the popular Black Sea resort regions.
A minor altercation broke out in Ayder Plateau, northern Türkiye, between a Saudi family and a group of Turkish locals after a young Turkish man allegedly took photos of the family without their permission and then offered to sell them the images for over 100 liras. The incident was recounted in a video posted on social media by an eyewitness.
The witness noted that such encounters are not uncommon in crowded tourist areas, emphasizing that the situation was minor and quickly deescalated without further incident.
Another witness shared a video on social media, clarifying the misunderstanding, stating that the altercation was solely between foreign nationals, and affirming that the area remains safe for tourism, urging against the spread of false rumors.
He also confirms that the incident involving the Saudi family was minor, but it was blown out of proportion on social media.
In an official statement, the Governorship of Rize, Türkiye, clarified the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasizing that it was an isolated case that does not reflect the character of the region or its residents.
The statement noted that the situation began with a brief verbal exchange, which escalated into minor tension but was swiftly contained with the help of police officers and local citizens.
The statement added that no physical injuries were reported, and no legal complaints were filed by either party. It stressed that the incident did not involve any hostile intent or discriminatory behavior toward foreigners.
The Rize Governorship emphasized there are no elements of xenophobia, discrimination, or social tension in the district, highlighting instead the hospitality and welcoming nature of the local community.
The statement said, "Our citizens and local business owners always show a warm and respectful attitude toward tourists visiting our country."
The governorship stressed that the region, its plateaus, and the country as a whole provide a safe, peaceful, and hospitable environment for all visitors.
It added that, with its natural beauty, thermal springs, and cultural richness, the plateau attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists year-round, while public order and visitor safety are maintained at the highest level.
This is not the first time Turkish authorities have acted promptly to protect tourists in Türkiye. In 2023, after an incident involving an Arab tourist, a Turkish official delegation accompanied by security personnel immediately visited the injured Kuwaiti citizen to offer support and guarantee that those responsible would be held accountable.
Rize, a jewel of Türkiye’s Black Sea region, is witnessing a notable increase in tourist arrivals this year, with officials highlighting the city’s safety, natural beauty, and warm hospitality.
Rize continues to distinguish itself with a harmonious blend of green forests and blue seascapes, alongside its historical and cultural landmarks. The city also draws attention for its distinctive local cuisine and wide range of attractions, including forests, highlands, ponds, and waterfalls—making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
